Branding and architectural design rejuvenated the family business ‘Kronos’ in Chios, doubling our clients’ sales within a month of the completion of the project. Each element designed contributed to the complete renovation of the brand and the reintroduction to the market as a modern, high-quality, customer-focused business. Kronos had been producing fresh artisanal ice creams in Chios since 1929 — a family business approaching its 87th year, rich in heritage but in need of renewal. The logo had remained unchanged for years and the store no longer reflected the brand’s quality or contemporary potential. The owner decided to relaunch the brand with new branding, a redesigned identity, and a full store renovation — the challenge being to modernise without erasing the heritage that made Kronos a local landmark for both residents and visitors.
STIRIXIS defined the brand strategy through holistic design thinking, upon which all subsequent steps were based. The logo was modernised — retaining the recognisable planet mark while giving it a more contemporary image — and paired with the year of establishment and an explanatory tagline. A minimal approach was followed, with brass tones evoking handmade craft. The store was reformed retaining original tiles and wood to honour the brand’s long presence, while introducing an upgraded customer experience, faster service, better functionality, and enhanced cross-selling opportunities. An intense blue colour palette created a vibrant, welcoming contrast with the colourful products.
The results were immediate: sales doubled within a few months of completion. The refurbishment highlighted the quality of Kronos’ products, upgraded the brand’s image, and attracted new customers. The new concept was well received by visitors, with the open, neat, and lively atmosphere creating a modern and friendly environment that reinforces the brand’s distinct identity. The project was recognised with a German Design Award 2019.
